Writing Awards

I was the kid in school that cringed at the thought of giving a book report in front of the class. I was the awkward, insecure, approval-seeker who needed constant reassurance. So, to me, these awards are an ever-present reminder that God is able to take the least in us and show off His greatness.

Isaiah 61:4 says that, “they shall become oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.”

A display of splendor has always made me think of a trophy case, a place where the works of the Lord are attractively presented. I’m not the bragging type. I hate to draw attention to myself, but on the other hand, I find it easy to boast in the Lord! He has done amazing and marvelous things in my life and I only want Him to get credit for what He has done.

In 2009 I received an award for Best Devotional at the North Texas Christian Writers Conference held in September at Crosstimbers Community Church in Keller, Texas. In 2009 I was also selected as a finalist in the Writers Digest Red Heart Black Heart Contest. My humorous piece, Male Order Delivery, appears in their compliation book. In 2008 I was honored with two writing awards:Writer of the Year at the American Christian Writers conference in February 2008Best Non-fiction Book (2nd place) at the North Texas Christian Writers conference in September 2008.To God be all the glory. He makes misfits mighty!
